Petrified wood is formed when wood, after death, is quickly covered with fine grain sedimentary rock. The organic wood substance is replaced by silicon dioxide in a pseudomorphosis process. Amazing specimens of petrified wood have been found in Holbrook, Arizona. It has also been found in Egypt, Australia, Brazil and Argentina.
