History and Uses
Pietersite is a relatively new crystal, it was found in Windhoek, Namibia by Sid Pieters in 1962. Another find was made in China in 1993 which is predominantly coloured gold and bronze. Blue Pietersite is relatively rare, with the more common forms being red or gold and they all display a beautiful chatoyancy.
Geological Description
Pietersite is a member of the quartz family a silicon dioxide mineral with a hardness of 7. It is composed of Tiger Eye, Hawks Eye and Jasper and displays a beautiful chatoyancy in contrasting colours of blue, gold, red, grey and black. Pietersite is found in South Africa and China.
