Prehnite varies in colour from light green to yellow but can also be colourless, blue or white and a rare orange Prehnite was discovered in the Kalahari Manganese Fields in April 2000. First described in 1788, when it was found in Eastern Cape Province, South Africa, it was named after Colonel Hendrik Von Prehn who had commanded the Dutch military forces at the Cape of Good Hope from 1768 to 1780. This stone has been used by South African shamans since ancient times to enhance their powers of prophecy and it is a great ally for readers and healers.

Prehnite is a calcium aluminium silicate mineral with a hardness of 6.5. Its crystal system is orthorhombic and it is found in Australia, China, South Africa, Scotland and in New Jersey, USA.
