The Ancient Greek word selene is where the name Selenite came from as it means “moon”. In ancient times people believed that certain transparent stones waxed and waned with the moon. Selenite refers exclusively to the transparent and colourless form of gypsum. It is best to cleanse these crystals with a smudge stick or singing bowl as it will dissolve if placed in water. They are believed to be great cleansers of other crystals when placed in close quarters.
